1. Brushing
With children from 0 – 2 years old, make sure you are brushing their teeth twice a day using a soft-bristle toothbrush. A soft brush is both safer and more comfortable for your children.
2. Toothpaste
With children from 2 – 5 years old, it’s important that they’re using a small amount of toothpaste, usually about the size of a pea. It is ideal for them to spit out the toothpaste when finished brushing, but as long as it is only a pea sized amount it is okay for them to swallow.
3. Flossing
You should start flossing as soon as you see their teeth touching. Food and bacteria can start building up once the teeth are touching, so starting that habit of flossing early on is very important.
4. Eating and Drinking
Limit your children from eating or drinking sugary food and drinks throughout the day. These foods can eventually lead to tooth decay, especially if proper care isn’t implemented.
5. Other Products
Use dental products that contain fluoride to help help strengthen enamel.
