It’s that time of year when everyone is making changes and setting goals for the upcoming year. This time of year is a perfect time to remember how important it is to take care of your teeth. At Mountain View Pediatric Dentistry we want to remind you to not neglect your teeth when you’re making New Year’s resolutions. As your trusted pediatric dentist of Farmington, Utah, we offer you these tips as a starting place to avoid cavities in 2014.
1. Don’t forget to floss! Flossing is one of the most important routines you can do to take care of your teeth! Flossing your teeth will help you avoid cavities almost as much as brushing your teeth. Most people don’t floss because it seems too time-consuming; however, your dentist can show you that you can effectively floss in less than two minutes.
2. Find out about fluoride! If you weren’t aware, fluoride is an important part of your dental health. Some water sources provide all the fluoride your mouth needs; others do not. Talk to your dentist about whether or not you should use additional fluoride to improve your dental health and prevent cavities.
3. Brush your teeth more frequently! Brushing your teeth after you eat sugary foods will protect your teeth from the immediate build-up of bacteria that frequently causes cavities. The longer you let that sugar sink into the crevices of your teeth, the more quickly the bacteria will begin to decay your teeth, giving you cavities.
So before you finish your list of New Year’s resolutions, remember to consider your teeth and make 2014 the year of no cavities!
